The Truth About Wealth

What is wealth, really? Before I get into that with you, I want you to understand why I am even asking the question. 11.5% of Americans smoke. Around 58% of Americans indulge in pornography. 36.6% of Americans eat fast food. Only 5% of Americans will be financially secure, and only 1% are what would be considered financially wealthy.

I believe that a sane planet full of good people would gravitate toward doing good things and avoid doing bad things. I believe wealth is a good thing. How do I know? The closer I get to it, the better my life, my family’s life, and the lives of those in the world around me tend to get.

This leads me to two possible conclusions:

  1. We don’t live on a sane planet with good people.
  2. We do live on a sane planet with good people, and those people don’t understand how good wealth is. Personally, after 12 years of working in the financial industry with families and entrepreneurs around the world, I have seen with my own eyes that our planet is full of good people. I can count on one hand the number of times I felt someone had legitimately bad intentions and that I didn’t want to help them because of it. In light of that, the purpose of this article is to set the record straight and share my definition and what I believe is the proper definition of wealth. My personal definition of wealth is abundance and prosperity in all dynamics of life. A dynamic is an area or an aspect of someone’s life where they have future goals and future intentions and that they interact with as they live. A marriage is part of my life dynamics. My dog and two cats are part of my life dynamics. My church is part of my life dynamics. But also, the fact that I live in the country of America and what happens with that country impacts me directly, means it is part of my life dynamics as well. I also happen to live on this giant spinning rock in outer space with you and like my country, what happens on this rock directly affects me too, and that means that earth and those on it are part of my dynamics. For me, wealth means that I look to create the greatest amount of abundance and prosperity in all of these dynamics named, and others. And I can’t do that if I’m broke. I can’t do that if I’m selfish. I can’t do that if I’m unhealthy. I can’t do that if parts of my life are holding me back. If you look at the origins of the word wealth, it actually traces back to “wellness” which refers to wholeness in life, healing, and spirituality. For you and I to improve the quality of life of ourselves, our loved ones, and the world around us, wouldn’t that mean we would experience a great degree of wholeness? Wouldn’t that mean we would need to heal ourselves to get to that point and that our actions once we are there would also heal others and make them whole as well? And wouldn’t the accomplishment of that be spiritual in nature? This is the real character quality of wealth. It is one of help, responsibility, wholeness of self, making others whole, and doing the greatest amount of good that we can in as many areas and with as many people as possible in this life. And this would require financial means to achieve and it would require freedom of time. So then let me ask you a tough question: Are you living by this definition of wealth?

In the last week, how many people did you help without expecting anything back in return? In the last week, did you earn enough income to further your financial wealth and take another step toward achieving a wealthy life? In the last week, did you learn anything new that expanded your horizons and allowed you to see yourself or the world around you more clearly? In the last week, did you play? Did you do something that you genuinely enjoy just for the sake of enjoying it?

On a day-to-day basis, a wealthy person does all of those things. Why? Because their number one goal is to help others. They understand the importance of earning power and building financial wealth and don’t attempt to avoid it or downplay it. They want to always be a better version of themselves from one day to the next and learn something new that helps them get there. And they are playful at heart. Some of the wealthiest people I know are the most playful people I know.

Let’s trade “retirement” for “responsibility”. Let’s trade “escaping the rat race” for “living with purpose”. Let’s trade financial bondage for freeing ourselves and others.

Because I believe when we have millions of people living this way, it will create a movement that makes this world a better place.

I’m there. I want you to be there. And if you’re a good person, I’d love to help you do that.

I hope this article gives you some valuable tools that you can begin to apply to build a life of abundance and prosperity in all areas.

In closing, my mission in life is to help good people build more wealth to make the world a better place. So, if you’re a good person who wants to help make the world a better place and this article helped you, I want to encourage you to start planning your next quarterly trip and putting this into practice.
