Wealth Is The Ability To Choose
Wealth is something we hear about often. It is a term thrown around by financial firms, TV guru’s, e-books, and all over. Is it a number? Is it about a nest egg? Is it the type of investments a person owns? I believe wealth is not any of those things. I am going to share with you that I believe wealth is a state being so that you can learn what it looks like and feels like. Without knowing the effects of wealth, it will be very hard to achieve it or to know when it has been achieved.
Imagine waking up and not being obligated to be anywhere. You did not have to go to a job and you had no consideration about the fact that you wouldn’t earn a paycheck due to not working. You get up at the time you choose, go downstairs and have a gourmet cup of coffee, and watch the sunrise peak over the mountains from your patio. As you watch the sunrise, you think about what you’ll choose to do for the day. You’ll find some interesting activity to do today, do some reading, and go somewhere incredible for dinner.
You’ve met people like this. You may not have known it. In your eyes they just seemed relaxed, happy, and they have a vitality about them that is unmistakable. These people are wealthy. They no longer trade their time for money and because of that, they are really living life! They don’t consider money in any of their decisions and they have no economic barriers. The result of this is an individual that is truly free to be who they really are and live life on their terms.
Right now, you wake up because you have to go to work on time. You go downstairs and drink whatever coffee you could afford. Instead of the sunrise, it’s probably a mobile device or a computer screen that has your attention because you’ve got to check your emails and notifications. You have to rush out the door and probably sit in some form of traffic while you go to your job. You’re good at your job and you don’t mind it, but you don’t necessarily love it. You don’t complain, but if you could choose to do anything it wouldn’t be to go to work everyday. You work and then you’re home by 6 or 7. You’re drained and spend the rest of the evening doing dinner and watching tv. You stay up too late because you want that last bit of freedom before you have to wake up and do it all over again.
There is a way out and way towards freedom. It’s simple, but it isn’t easy. Many people choose not to stick with it because it isn’t what everyone else is doing. But if you’re tired of someone else owning your potential, I’d say to give it a shot. To be who you really are capable of being it means you must be unrestricted. Why? Because freedom means you can choose anything. You’re obligated to nothing. That’s true freedom. You can do a decent job of that in most parts of your life if you really try, but ultimately, if your economics are not aligned with your goals you will always be held back.
